Application Scientist – Optical Instrumentation and Particle Sizing (m/f/d)

Your role

As an Application Scientist in our DLS development team, you'll lead exciting projects at the intersection of electronics, optics, and chemistry. You will work closely with teammates and pilot customers to improve both the hardware and algorithmic aspects of the system while you align your efforts with the management and scientific partners. Staying ahead of the competition is second nature to you, as you're always eager to learn, read, and write patents, and collaborate with legal experts to protect cutting-edge ideas.


Your contribution to the team

  • Identify areas of improvement in the DLScat performance and usability.
  • Design and build prototypes of new features.
  • Collaborate with academic partners to start pilot projects.
  • Lead the in-flow measurement project in collaboration with an academic partner, design a prototype for integrating in-flow measurements into the DLScat system.
  • Read and write patents and work closely together with legal experts.
  • Develop alignment, verification, and testing procedures and refine them together with the production team.


Job requirements

  • A background, preferably PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or similar with hands-on experience in experimental optics

  • General curiosity and passion for scientific instrumentation, particularly in the area of optical nanoparticle sizing

  • Ability to identify technical issues and propose solutions and improvements

  • A strong self-driven, proactive and independent workstyle

  • Strong communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate and communicate with scientists and stakeholders across disciplines

  • Willingness to travel (~1 month/year) for customer visits and trade shows

  • Knowledge of Python; Matlab, Labview, C# or C++ is a plus

  • Having dealt with patents and communicating with legal experts is a plus
